Meetings with advisor help in considering a major

Back to All Stories

mhernandezstopp.jpgWith all the meetings with my advisor in order to pick classes, this week was pretty eye-opening.

I think I鈥檓 going to follow an international relations course of study. I want to minor in something, and I鈥檓 debating between Latin American studies or film and media studies. Either one would most definitely be intriguing and beneficial.

I attended a speech this past week about Islam鈥檚 presence in Europe, given by Jonathan Lawrence, a Harvard-educated professor now at Boston College.

The speech was extremely interesting, and I loved how what he said connected with the topic we are discussing in my first-year seminar.

There are always speeches and talks around campus that are relevant to what we are learning; and I love being able to apply what I learned in one context to that of another.

This weekend should bring more new experiences as well! I鈥檓 going to the ENST Brown Bag on the Marcellus shale controversy at the ALANA Cultural Center.

On Saturday, I will be spending my day in Boston. I decided that a trip to Boston would be fun because I鈥檝e never been. It was originally a trip organized for staff and faculty, but I was invited to come along.

I can鈥檛 wait to do some shopping, and to sample the variety of eclectic foods. I also appreciate having many friends from the area; I know they will recommend the best places the city has to offer!

Sunday will be a homework day, as usual. I will want to catch the indie film Heartbreaker, though.

And I will probably spend some of the day outside if the weather continues the way it has been. Yes, weather here can be unpredictable, but it鈥檚 the little surprises that are the spice of life!

(I鈥檝e been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at 香蜜影视. Until next time!)
